After a bumpy start, Diablo 4 is about to enter Season 13, with the brand-new expansion Lord of Hatred scheduled for release on April 28th.
Lord of Hatred is not only the final chapter of Age of Hatred, but it also brings changes to itemization, progression, and build crafting, as well as new classes, new endgame content, and new areas.
Whether you've already started stockpiling and eagerly awaiting its release, or are planning to return to the battlefield after a long hiatus, you need to be aware of the new content.
New Story
Obtaining Lord of Hatred unlocks Vessel of Hatred. As the game's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred provides the necessary groundwork for the struggles and tension players will experience in Sanctuary before the final battle through a series of story events.
Building on the storyline established by the earlier expansion Vessel of Hatred, Lord of Hatred focuses on the preparations Wanderer makes before the final showdown with Mephisto. Nahantu region is also introduced, along with a host of new items, skills, and endgame content, where you'll continue your fight against Mephisto in the campaign mode.
The prime evil of hatred has been plotting to seize control of Sanctuary and warp humanity into a hate-filled race. You will destroy his network of influence in Nahantu, New Region of Scosglen, and Sanctuary through a fragile alliance.
New Region of Scosglen is a previously unseen region introduced by Lord of Hatred, with towns, dungeons, and monsters scattered across volcanic coastlines, crystal forests, crumbling buildings, and more. Its ancient aesthetic sets it apart in the world of Diablo. But beneath this relatively bright exterior lies the same hostility, danger, and darkness as Sanctuary. Scosglen will be filled with new threats to overcome on your path to the final battle against Mephisto.
New Class
Paladins are heavily armored frontline warriors, focused on durability, suppression, and close-range punishment of demonic threats. As everyone agrees, this is an incredibly powerful class that makes you feel invincible. Because of significant changes to the overall game mechanics, Paladin skills will look different from what you've played before, perfectly embodying your expectations for an RPG Paladin.
Paladin is now playable, unlocked immediately by pre-ordering any expansion pack. Paladin offers four distinct class paths, allowing you to familiarize yourself with its core mechanics beforehand, which will undoubtedly be beneficial when Lord of Hatred launches.
Warlocks wield destructive power with forbidden knowledge, binding evil forces without directly serving them. As a battlefield control expert, Warlock possesses a variety of skills, including fire, shadow, and crowd control, capable of turning the tide of battle. Abyssal greatly enhances Warlock mobility, making the game incredibly fun.
Shadow Damage builds grant stackable stealth and invincibility, allowing you to teleport through walls like a ghost and escape danger. This class also has other specializations, such as Hellfire and Demonology, so you can create a more traditional summoner or focus on powerful fire damage.
New Gameplay
Lord of Hatred completely changes the way Diablo 4 is played. This isn't just a patch, it's a complete overhaul. The level cap has been raised to 70, requiring everyone to rebuild their gear.
The skill tree has also been updated, with all classes receiving a variety of new skills. This means players can build more dynamic and highly customizable characters. This is a global change.
All classes have new skill variants, the level cap has been raised, and the hero progression system has been redesigned, providing a completely refreshed gaming experience for all players.
You no longer need to allocate skill points to the top of the skill tree to unlock subsequent tiers. Now, unlocking tiers is tied to level progression. There are no longer large passive skills at the bottom of the skill tree; instead, customization options become more abundant as skill levels increase. Furthermore, the skill point cap has been increased from 5 to 15 points. Therefore, you'll need to rethink your skill point allocation.
New Feature
Loot Filter
The long-awaited Loot Filter is coming soon. This feature is available to all Diablo 4 players. Loot Filter allows you to customize how your inventory is displayed, hiding unwanted items and highlighting desired gear based on specific criteria, or filtering by rarity, type, or status. This tool is more than just a tool; it gives you more granular control over your inventory while reducing visual clutter and making your inventory browsing experience as smooth as possible.
Talisman
Lord of Hatred will introduce upgraded set bonuses with the new Talisman, greatly expanding the freedom of character builds. Talismans are containers for socketed trinkets, unlocking gameplay-altering effects in addition to traditional stat boosts. If Talismans help you develop a specific playstyle, rather than just increasing stats, they are more likely to be popular with players.
Horadric Cube
Horadric Cube is a brand-new crafting system crucial for ultimate victory. It allows you to upgrade any common item you find with random affixes, transforming it into unique gear. Besides upgrading, Horadric Cube can also remove unwanted affixes or completely change gear, maximizing item starts to enhance your character build customization—essential for tackling the new endgame content of Lord of Hatred.
New Endgame Features
War Plans
Unlocked after completing Lord of Hatred campaign, the new endgame content, War Plans, allows you to create custom activity lists and add various buffs to earn specific rewards and a generous amount of Diablo 4 Gold. You can craft your own endgame progression.
Echoing Hatred
Echoing Hatred is essentially a Horde mode where you'll face randomly generated waves of enemies, whose strength increases as you survive. The longer you survive, the richer the loot. To unlock this challenge, you need to find the extremely rare item, Traces of Echo, and craft a powerful set of optimized gear.
Fishing
Endgame fishing offers a relatively peaceful side experience, allowing you to take your fishing rod to the calmest waters of Sanctuary. Details are currently limited, but based on Blizzard's announcements, Lord of Hatred fishing system will probably follow Diablo Immortal's model, where the best fishing spots yield the rarest fish.Endgame fishing provides a relatively tranquil side experience, allowing you to venture into the calmest waters of Sanctuary.
The significant changes to Itemisation and Progression in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred bring a completely new experience. Advanced crafting and Talismans introduce more strategic deck-building customization options. The new Loot Filter simplifies inventory management, while richer progress paths ensure that Lord of Hatred not only provides a satisfying story ending but also lays the mechanical foundation for game genres beyond Age of Hatred. We can now look forward to the new experience of Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred on April 28th
